Vegetarian wedding menu ideas?
I am getting married this summer and plan on having a vegetarian menu, since both my fiancee and I have been vegetarians for quite some time. After talking to many caterers who think vegetarian catering means vegi platters and salad I have decided to do the wedding with out a caterer. Any ideas on what to serve my 75 or so guests?
We did our vegan wedding without a caterer and you can too. we have also helped with some self catered began weddings and they are lots of fun.
It is summer so go with summer foods where possible and unless you have endless help it is best ot do it in a self serve manner and I prefer a outdoor tent - it makes clean up a lot easier! It is also not as costly as you might think.- usually less than a hall rental.
So plan a circular set up for cold and semi-cold dishes so guests can circulate serving themselves there and a hot table where they can file down both sides.
Cold table:
Fill with lots of cheap flowers like daisies to make festive. Mix in fruit like cantaloupe, watermelon, other mellon and strawberries. Have humus, bruschetta and crackers. Serve whole grain rolls in different patterns with cashew millet butter - ah heavenly! Have a carob dipping station with fruit and kosher marshmallows (vegan), Also a bunch of cubed vegan cheeses goes nicely. Vegan jello molds, relish trays and punch fountains.
Hot table: Afternoon wedding,
You can have wild rice with diced boca chicken patties, corn on the cob, cranberry sauce for one entree and bean stroganoff with pepers and mushrooms and stuffed tomatos for another. Also consider having vegan burgers and hot dogs with fixings if there will be kids there.
In the eveing you might prefer the hot table to have:
Tofu lazzonia (sp), garlic bread, garbanzo gluten loaf surrounded by potatoes onions and carrots (Looks like a pot-roast but vegan), almond green beans, and perhaps glazed carrots and harvard beats.
Anyway there is lots of options and you can do it better and cheaper than any cook who is not a vegan chief. I've lots of ideas but I'd better close this for now.
Of course there is the cake which ironically may be the easiest to get vegan.
Best wishes - may your wedding be all you have dreamed of.
PS I see you are vegetarian so you may not be vegan. If so it is even easier with even more options although i gave you ideas for vegan food you can adapt to include milk egg and cheese options if desired..
